Women’s tennis is the star of the show this week as The Tennis Centre next to your La Manga Club residence hosts a round of one of the major clay-court tennis events of the year. This Friday the 7th and Saturday the 8th of February the Fed Cup is here, with the elimination round between Spain and Japan. And what’s more, the weekend will feature two ceremonies for a couple of the greatest Spanish players of all time: María José Martínez and Arantxa Sánchez Vicario. Don’t miss this true gathering of stars!
The competition will be nothing less than intense. The Spaniards, captained by Anabel Medina, and the Japanese, led by Naomi Osaka, are ready to leave it all on the courts to get to the finals of the Fed Cup, to be held in Budapest, Hungary, in April. It’s not the first time that we’ve celebrated a Fed Cup at La Manga Club. In April of 2018 we got to host the elimination round between Paraguay and Spain, in which Carla Suárez and Garbiñe Muguruza were two of the players, and which the Spanish team ended up winning 3-1. Perhaps it’s our resort that brought them luck!
The awards ceremonies will shine a light on two stars brilliant in their own right: María José Martínez and Arantxa Sánchez Vicario. The first will receive recognition for her entire professional career, in which she won 21 doubles and 5 individual titles. Retired from the courts since last year, this Friday she will receive a commemorative plaque from the President of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET), Miguel Díaz Román. And on the 8th of February the honors will fall on Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, who was Number 1 in the world and the winner of 4 Grand Slam titles. The International Tennis Federation will award her the “Premio al Compromiso” on the courts, just around the corner from your house at La Manga Club.
Thanks to your having decided to live in one of the best sport resorts in the world, this weekend you’ll have the chance to rub elbows with great tennis stars and even have a go at playing on the courts yourself. It’s about time you took advantage of the incredible professional facilities you have at your fingertips. La Manga Club’s Tennis Centre is one of the largest in Europe, with 20 clay courts, including an exhibition court and another central court with the capacity to seat 1200 spectators, 4 hard courts, 4 with artificial grass, and 1 squash court. It’s a complex and an experience that, as evidenced, enables us to host international competitions like the Davis Cup, the Fed Cup, and ATP competitions.
Your La Manga Club residence isn’t just a paradise for relaxation. It’s a truly special destination where you can see some of today’s most important sport figures up close and personal and even attend some of the most important matches of the season. Don’t miss out!
