Charming and full of surprises, the delights of Murcia tourism that we have come to discover at La Manga Club are also in the sights of thousands of other European visitors. 168,103 travelers in the first quarter of 2024, to be exact; an increase of 8.4% over the same period last year and representing a historical figure for the region.
According to data from the Egatur survey of the National Statistics Institute (INE), between January and March 2024, foreign tourists spent 219.8 million Euros on local commerce and services, an increase of 23.8% over the same period in 2023. This is also a record for this autonomous community, according to past statistics.
These figures confirm the recent success of the Region of Murcia as a tourism destination, particularly the Costa Cálida, the southeastern area where our La Manga Club properties are located. Just 25 minutes by car from the historic city of Cartagena and less than 15 minutes from the Calblanque Regional Park, La Manga Club Resort offers great access to major attractions in the region. Our extensive sports infrastructure and accommodations, including the first Grand Hyatt hotel in Spain, combine with an impressive gastronomic offer to make us a strategic destination for those who want to spend a few peaceful days of rest in a prestigious resort while moving easily through a region replete with gorgeous beaches, mountains, heritage and history.
On average, tourists stay in the region for 12.76 days, a figure well above the national average of 7.98 days, making Murcia the Spanish region with the highest number of overnight stays by foreign tourists. Those who choose to stay at La Manga Club have plenty of time to enjoy all the services the resort offers in the comfort of tailor-made accommodations. For visitors who prefer to stay in a villa or apartment rather than a hotel, La Manga Club is ideal because of its many varied residences. And for owners of our Las Orquídeas properties, it means rental income guaranteed, thanks to the large number of visitors to the region. Should they choose to let their apartment, not only will they find a steady occupation rate, but also longer stays from guests who want to take advantage of the Murcia tourism offer of beach, sun, history, sport, and more.
In terms of countries of origin, the Egatur survey has confirmed the diversity that we are already noticing anecdotally on our golf courses and in our restaurants: British visitors top the rankings with a 21.3% share of the total foreign tourism, followed by the French with 19.4%, Scandinavians with 13% and finally, the Dutch and Belgians, with 9.8% each.
For these visitors, Murcia tourism is an open door, always promising the discovery of something new. Whether tourists want to walk along Calblanque beach or tour Cartagena, Spain, any excuse is a good one to return again and again. The broad and enriching opportunities of the region are worth exploring to their fullest and enjoying at any time of the year.
